For those who have seen it before and maybe a few who haven't

Homemade Powdered Sugar

I know I have tried to make powdered sugar before and thought it was as simple as blending regular granulated sugar and that was it. It didn't quite come out right and maybe if I had the following tip about adding the Cornstarch (even though it says optional) it would have come out right.  Please let me know if you have tried it using CS and how it came out.

What You Need:
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • Blender or Food Processor
  • 2 Tbsp. Cornstarch (optional)
In your blender or food processor, add the sugar and cornstarch (if using it). Supposedly commercial powdered sugar has cornstarch in it to help prevent it from clumping.Blend it up for about 30 seconds or so. Check on it and blending more if needed.
That's it!

Quinoa Patties

Came across this recipe while reading about Quinoa rinse water as a hair shampoo.......who knew!

courtesy of Whole Living

Makes 12 Patties

  • 2 1/2 cups cooked quinoa, room temperature
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine-grain sea salt
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped fresh chives
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan or Gruyere cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 cup whole-grain bread crumbs, plus more if needed
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

Directions

  1. Combine the quinoa, eggs, and salt in a medium bowl. Stir in the chives, onion, cheese, and garlic. Add the bread crumbs, stir, and let stand for a few minutes. Form mixture into twelve 1-inch thick patties. (Add more breadcrumbs if the mixture is too wet; add water if too dry.) Mixture can be kept covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  2. Heat oil in a large, heavy skillet over medium-low heat. Working in batches, add patties, cover, and cook until bottoms are deeply browned, about 7 to 10 minutes. Increase heat to medium if there is no browning after 10 minutes and continue to cook until patties are browned. Flip patties with a spatula and cook the second sides until golden, about 7 minutes. Remove from skillet and cool on a wire rack. Repeat with remaining patties.

DIY Face Cleansing Pads for Oily Skin

homemade face cleansing pads
What You need:
  • Cotton rounds (easy dollar store find)
  • A container with a tight-fitting lid (great time to reuse what you recycle)
  • 2 cups distilled water (or you can boil tap water for 10 minutes, and allow to cool)
  • 1 Tablespoon mild shampoo or wash (castille baby might be a good choice)
  • 1 Tablespoon witch hazel or rubbing alcohol*
  • 1 Tablespoon white distilled vinegar
* People with sensitive skin should avoid using rubbing alcohol

Pour all ingredients into a container and shake to combine. Place enough cotton rounds into a container with a tight-fitting lid to fill it. Pour cleansing solution over the pads until saturated. Save any remaining cleanser for later use.

Rubbing alcohol is commonly used as a disinfectant to soothe skin. It is also considered to be helpful in healing acne because it helps dry the skin and cleans off acne-causing bacteria.
Vinegar is another home remedy often used to soothe skin issues. The acidic properties of vinegar are good for bee stings and sunburns because they gently neutralize the pain. You can also use vinegar to shrink your pores, and it’s an ingredient in popular home remedies for acne and astringents.
